Brrrrr! It sure has been chilly the last couple of days! Does the colder temperatures have you bringing out your portable heaters or curling up next to the fireplace? Here are some tips to safely heat your home during the colder months:
• Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected each year by a qualified professional.
• Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from heating equipment, including furnaces, fireplaces, wood stoves and portable heaters.
•Turn space heaters off when you leave the room or go to sleep.
•Never use your oven to heat your home.
•Make sure the fireplace has a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room. Ashes should be cool before putting them into a metal container. Keep the container a safe distance from your home.
