VAN PLAN
SAFE & HEALTHY COMMUNITIES
Gun violence prevention
In King County, too many families and individuals are deeply impacted by gun violence—and addressing this crisis requires more than just law enforcement. It demands a holistic approach that centers healing, prevention, and community leadership.

During the pandemic, I served on a regional committee called the Regional Approach to Gun Violence and Youth Impacts. Together, we developed recommendations focused on centering the voices of impacted communities and nonprofit partners. One key recommendation was the creation of an Office of Gun Violence Prevention, aimed at coordinating efforts and resources more effectively.

I’ve also been actively involved in community rallies like Wear Orange Weekend and have partnered with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America—efforts that raise awareness and call for common-sense solutions.

We must invest in life-affirming programs that support those most affected by violence while addressing the root causes tied to economic hardship and systemic inequities. By partnering with communities and amplifying those closest to the problem, we can build lasting solutions that reduce risk and increase safety for everyone.
